As a trainer we will have various roles and responsibilities. Our role will change and the
responsibilities will be many. In this chapter we take a look at what they might be.
At the beginning of each course it is a good idea to

Ground rules
Ground rules are a statement of values and guidelines that candidates can use as an outline of
acceptable conduct and behaviour whilst on a course. They help establish a safe and respectable
working environment. Discuss what might be acceptable ground rules for this course.
Lesson Plans The Role of the Trainer
The trainer’s role is that of a ‘facilitator’ so therefore the trainer should help learning to take
place. This can only happen if the trainer can create classroom that encourages the learning
process to take place.
With regard to the content, the trainer should be able to
• Organise and present information in such a way that candidates can use it to increase their
knowledge base.
• Organise and present activities that will reinforce the learning process.
• Check to see if learning has taken place.
