          Teaching

Differentiation is about recognising that learners have different levels of ability and therefore different
Teaching needs. Differentiation is a means of planning activities that meet the needs of all the learners in your

         group.

You need to plan and deliver activities that can be
considered achievable by the less able candidates
in your group and also tasks which provide
adequate stimulus for the more able candidates in
         the group.
List some of the strategies you could use for
         differentiation in your group?

      Lesson Plans Planning a Lesson

Some trainers plan in detail, some don't. Among those who don't are a number who contend that it is
impossible to plan if one is to take full account of the way candidates are motivated. In a situation such
as this, the success of a lesson depends almost entirely on a trainer’s sensitivity to their candidates
and on the trainer’s ability to respond by offering something suitable 'off the cuff' or from 'up their
sleeve'. To many, this is an ideal rather than a reality because of the demands it makes upon the
trainer. Thus, there is a spectrum of opinion among trainers which ranges from no planning and
complete spontaneity at one end to detailed planning at the other; complete spontaneity - controlled
spontaneity - planned flexibility - detailed planning. Where do you stand?

Planning a lesson is quite distinct from planning a course. Whereas planning a course demands overall
decisions of strategy, such as decisions about broad aims, general teaching methods and approach,
procedures for assessment and evaluation, etc., a lesson demands detailed decisions about
Handouts tactics. The trainer is now concerned with detailed objectives, the detail of diagnosis and feedback,
and so on. Decisions about such things as the syllabus content have probably already been made
before the lesson is planned, while the course itself was being designed. List the factors which you
think you take into consideration when planning a lesson.
